Rock
LPV and TPV (Longitudinal and transverse pulse velocity)
Pulse velocities of compression waves and shear waves in rock and the determination of ultrasonic elastic constants of an isotropic rock or one exhibiting slight anisotropy are determined with this method. Elastic constants should not be calculated for rocks having significant anisotropy by this method. Waves are propagated at one end of a rock specimen and the speed at which it is received at the opposite end is used to calculate density and ultrasonic elastic constants.
