Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Soil Resistivity Using the Wenner Four Electrode Method

Test Method Title

Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Soil Resistivity Using the Wenner Four Electrode Method

Reference Number

ASTM G57

Material

Soil

Test Property

Electrical Resistivity

Description of Test

Soil is placed into the soil box with thorough compaction as air voids will affect results. To reduce the effect water content has on the results, the sample can be fully saturated prior to testing. A voltage is impressed between the outer electrodes connected to the soil box and the voltage drop between the two inner electrodes is measured using the voltmeter.

Number of Test Specimens

1

Test Specimen Size

about 1000 grams for larger soil box, about 500 grams for smaller soil box

Keywords

corrosion, electrical resistivity
